A globally connected world where social media creates more ‘voice’ for consumers is driving greater transparency and accountability in the corporate world. This trend is increasingly being reflected in the philanthropic one where investors are becoming more demanding about how their ‘gifted’ capital is deployed. The focus is now on impact and how foundations measure it. Equally, as philanthropists become younger and more widespread – both as investors and as practitioners – more emphasis is being placed on understanding what works and what doesn’t. How do we create positive long-term social change rather than simply a cosmetic approach to creating social value?
